Mr Coastal is my fictional personification of Hermès’s Eau des Merveilles Bleue. An aromatic aquatic fragrance with a salty-ambery aroma. The “aquatic” flanker in the sultry Eau de Merveilles line. A sparkly fresh ozonic perfume that conjures to mind fresh water and salty sea air.
The year is 2016. It’s a cool and bright late summer’s day and a man by the name of Mr Coastal is chilling in his beach house. A breezy, optimistic type who loves being close to water. Lover of soft sand, sea air and sunbaked pebbles.
It’s late morning and Mr Coastal is relaxing on his balcony, looking out across the horizon. A G&T in one hand, a book in the other. A smell of pine trees and salty sea air fills the balcony and catches in his nostrils. Its salty-green wafts instantly recognisable and uplifting.
An extension on the world around it, Mr Coastal’s seaside apartment is a beach town in itself. A coastal mix of stone ornaments, driftwood furniture and sailstripe fabrics. In its centre hangs a painting of the sea. A painting so vivid, you’d swear it was a window. Just next to the painting is a scented candle which, when burned, produces the most intoxicating aroma of amber and patchouli. A sweet contrast to the salty sea air around it.
If there’s one thing that typifies Mr Coastal, it’s this apartment. A bright and breezy seaside dwelling, occupied by an equally vibrant personality. Whenever Mr Coastal’s around, the sun, sea and sand aren’t far behind him…
